Vättis, Gruschahalde

Beschreibung

Hinterer Büel with a view of Gruscha and the Roman finds

The Roman coin find on Gams, the hill above today's village, is a clear sign of the presence of the Romans near Vättis. The site is also an indication of the Roman settlement of the area far above today's village. In Roman times, the place of today's village was certainly still a flood plain from the Tamina from the Calfeisen Valley and the Görbsbach from the Kunkelstal, so it was probably largely uninhabitable. The main difficulty for the Roman road in the direction of the Kunkelspass was to find a suitable crossing over the Tamina at Vättis. Presumably, the Roman bridge stood at the entrance to the Calfeisen Valley. Therefore, a Roman estate of Vättis in the area of Gams or Gruscha is to be assumed. As a central and safe place, the Gruscha at the entrance to the Calfeisen Valley is obvious.
