Beschreibung

We start the hike at the Palfries mountain station. The Palfriesbahn cable car takes us up around 1,250 meters in just 12 minutes. The cable car travels over an impressive waterfall (Ragnatscher Bach) and takes us up to the Palfries plateau.

After an asphalted section, the beautifully laid out and varied path leads us slightly uphill over small bridges through beautiful vegetation. If we are lucky, we will discover rare flowers, visited by various butterflies and (wild) bees. The view back into the St. Gallen Rhine Valley rewards us for the 170 meters of ascent we had to overcome.

Geheimtipp

During the mountain spring, you will be surprised by many gentians on the Palfries plateau, along with other alpine flowers. It is not impossible that we might even spot a white gentian off the path.

Ausrüstung

Day hiking backpack (approx. 20 liters) with rain cover, sturdy and comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate and hard-wearing clothing in multiple layers, telescopic poles if necessary, sun and rain protection, provisions and drinking water, first aid kit, pocket knife, cell phone, headlamp if necessary, maps

Wegbeschreibung

From the mountain station, we hike on the asphalted alpine road in a south-easterly direction to Chamm. Continue downhill along the road towards Labria. In dry weather, you can also take the shortcut from Chamm via the alpine meadow. We then branch off to the left and follow the hiking trail into the Hinterelabria area. The beautifully laid out and varied path always leads slightly uphill over small bridges through beautiful vegetation. If we are lucky, we will discover rare flowers, visited by various butterflies and wild bees. The view of the St. Gallen Rhine Valley rewards us for the 170 meters in altitude that we have to overcome.

As we cross over, we really realize the vastness of the Palfries plateau. We have reached the highest point of the hike. There we turn half right and follow the marked mountain path. During the mountain spring, we are surprised by the many gentians and other alpine flowers. It is not impossible that we might even see a white one off the path. We follow the white-red-white marked mountain trail to the Palfries mountain inn and back to the mountain station.
If we want to enjoy the magnificent alpine flora for a quarter of an hour longer, we don't turn off and continue the hike on the more or less level path until we reach the Avier mountain trail (2,342 m above sea level). Here we take the path downhill, where we will arrive at the parking lot belonging to the Palfries mountain inn within a very short time. The walk from here back to the starting point, namely the Palfries mountain station, takes a quarter of an hour.
