Ah, youth! Wouldn't we all like to be 16 again? No, Jane Mumford would rather not. She has never been one for romantic "coming-of-age" stories. What’s romantic about a time full of pimples, stress, and pressure to perform?! As a child, the world seemed magical to her, but as a teenager, all that mattered was: being cool, belonging, finding the great love… and at some point, something must also be achieved before you die! That’s why Jane Mumford spent her teenage years feeling overwhelmed, lonely, and withdrawn as a tap-dancing gothic rocker. Because against the fear of not belonging, the only remedy is: not wanting to be part of it at all! Ha! Loneliness as self-empowerment! And maybe she has never completely grown out of that teenage existence? Because sometimes she still catches herself trying to be "cool," and it makes her feel really uncool. And then all the self-doubts, the existential pain, and the overthinking - just like in the good old teenage days - come crashing down on her again… into the very, very dark shadows of the night.​
