Sargans - Gonzen - Kurhaus Alvier - Oberschan

We climb up to the castle and enjoy the panoramic view. On the steep track, we hike to the hamlet Unterprod and past well-kept farms to Gonzenwald. Along the stations of the cross, we reach the Erzbild chapel, then hike on the narrow mountain path to the Gonzen signpost, above which the Gonzen ladder is anchored. We follow this path to the ruins of the old miner's house at the rock face. From here, only experienced and sure-footed persons should continue. On the narrow mountain ledge, we reach the iron ladder and climb up to the platform of the second ladder and then on it to the forest path, which we follow through mixed forest and meadows to the little alpine pasture and into the Rieterwald. On partly narrow and wet paths, we go to the Luterbach creek, which we cross on a wooden bridge, then climb up to Oberhus on the Walserberg. Over the steep meadow path, we reach the mountain hut Gonzen. Then continuing to Alp Riet and to the Rieter huts, followed by the ascent to the Gonzen summit. A magnificent panoramic view of the Rhine and Seeztal valleys, the “Ländle,” and the surrounding mountains rewards us. For the descent to Oberhus, we use the same path. Then we go via Rungg and Lanaberg to Maiengut and cross the suspension bridge to the Alphütte Frohsinn. On the track, we reach the pretty Waldboden, then descend to Kurhaus Alvier.
