Photo route "with Giacometti on the way"

The Fondazione Centro Giacometti honors Alberto Giacometti on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his death in 2016 with an extensive photo documentation "I neither understand life nor death." For this purpose, 44 high-quality photographs of Giacometti's last stays in Stampa and of the burial were selected. The photo documentation is complemented by short texts about Giacometti's biography.

The reader thus obtains a photographic impression of the artist's last years in Bergell and can also visit the original locations on a walk between Coltura and Borgonovo. The concept of the publication meets the requirements of an artist's documentation and at the same time a guide. Thanks to an enclosed map, it is possible to find the exact photo locations. The selected pictures trace the path from Coltura via Giacometti's residence in Stampa and further to the cemetery San Giorgio in Borgonovo, where Giacometti was buried on January 15, 1966.

The photo book costs 30 CHF and can be purchased at information points or grocery stores in Bergell. It can be ordered from Salm Verlag.

The route starts in Coltura near the stable of the Giacometti family. From here, it goes down the local road to the Piz Duan bridge (location no. 4). In the area of the bridge are the Giacometti atelier, the Centro Giacometti, and the museum located 50 meters below. The last two stops on the route are at the church Giorgio di Borgonovo, about 1 km further at the entrance to Borgonovo.
