Albula Tunnel

The Albula Tunnel I of the Rhaetian Railway was opened in 1903. It is part of the Albula line Chur - St. Moritz, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008 together with the Bernina line. On June 9, 2024, after approx ten years of construction work, the new Albula Tunnel II was inaugurated with a festival and then opened to operation. A little peace and quiet has returned to Spinas, and visitors can admire the bypass channel for fish and the renaturalized Beverin floodplain below the station. The Albula Tunnel I will no longer be used for rail traffic in the future. The RhB will convert it into a safety tunnel by 2026. If you would like to find out more about the two tunnels and Alp Spinas, make a note of the last weekend in June, when two events are expected to take place in Spinas on the occasion of Open Doors Engadin.
