Even as a teenager, Fortunat had the dream of becoming a graphic designer. After his school years in Trun, he attended the art school in Zurich and Lucerne (with M. von Moos). Study trips to Great Britain, Holland, France, Italy, Greece and Spain strongly influenced his artistic work.
Since 1965 he lived with his family in Sargans. Over 50 years, his painting has evolved from a realistic representation to creative abstraction.
