Ruin Bregaglia Engadin

Borgo Casnacc

Borgo Casnacc (oua_62745938_image)
The ruins of the late medieval Casnàcc house are part of the Garbald heritage, the last witness to this fraction of Bondo, which was abandoned as a permanent settlement around 1600.

Beschreibung

Casnàcc is strategically located on a hillside terrace above the Maira. It is a "Borgo" (fortified village) or "Monte" (mountain pasture) and consisted of small houses, stable barns and cascines (drying houses for chestnuts), which were arranged around a meadow like a village. Today, in addition to the stone house of the Fondazione Garbald, another dwelling house, several stable barns built in mortar masonry with corner pillars, but also various dry stone walls without mortar are visible. Many of these have been unused for at least 400 years. The abandonment of these buildings could therefore coincide with the Bündner Wirren, as in other places in the region.
