Casa Console

The nineteenth-century palace that houses the Art Museum is an exceptional example of refined local architecture; its origins are directly linked to the activities of Antonio Semadeni, a skilled and successful pastry chef who emigrated to Poland, who built it in 1856 in place of a previous old rural house.

Beschreibung

His residence in the center of the

village of Poschiavo has always been called in popular language with the name of Casa Console, in memory of the function exercised abroad by its builder. The Art Museum wanted to preserve the traditional name of the building in which it is now located.

Inside the building are particularly valuable the original structures, the partly gilded stucco of the ceilings and various examples of Venetian polished stucco. Even the external façade overlooking the main street inside the village is of delightful nineteenth-century taste; in a niche on the first floor you can now admire a bronze statue by the sculptor French Ernest Barrias depicting the young Mozart while tuning the violin.
