The route is open: corridor through the wildlife sanctuary!
Details
Beschreibung
With snowshoes packed, we hike on the low-traffic road to the year-round inhabited village of Cavorgia. At the end of the lower part of the village, we put on the snowshoes. The path leads us on a snow-covered forest road, first flat then slightly downhill to the deeply snow-covered Maiensässe of Mises las Cavorgias. We continue to the lowest point, the bridge over the Rhine, and ascend on the other side to the main road. If no one has broken trail before us, the ascent can take quite a bit of energy. Upon reaching the main road, we take off the snowshoes and hike up the cleared road to Mumpé Tujetsch.
In Curschettas, on the winter hiking trail to Sedrun, we find the continuation of the snowshoe trail to Prau sura, a flat sunny alp with well-maintained Maiensässe. Leaning against a warm wooden wall, we enjoy the peace and the mountain views before continuing the path over the Maiensässe of Run Cunel to Segnas, our destination.
Geheimtipp
The route can be especially beautiful in light snowfall if you are well equipped. If you are already tired in Mumpé Tujetsch, you can end the route here and take the train back to Sedrun.
The route can also be started in reverse direction from Segnas.
Sicherheitshinweis
The route is signposted from Cavorgia but those unfamiliar with the area are advised to print and carry the topo map of the route. Do not leave the designated route in the wildlife sanctuary.
Wegbeschreibung
We hike from Sedrun with snowshoes packed on the road to Cavorgia. At the junction near the chapel, there is an information board about the route. We follow the signposted route to the lower part of the village of Cavorgia. After the last building, we put on the snowshoes and continue hiking eastward on the snow-covered road. This leads into the forest where the path is then clearly visible. We pass the Maiensässe Las Cavorgias, shortly after which we turn left downhill to the Rhine. The ascent to the cantonal road now begins. From there we carry the snowshoes up to Mompe Tujetsch. In the village, we turn left onto the winter hiking trail to Sedrun. At Curschettas we meet up with the continuation of the snowshoe trail, heading up to Prau Sura. We continue following the route to Run Cunel to Segnas.
