Beschreibung
We start the hike at the Palfries mountain station. The Palfriesbahn cable car takes us up around 1,250 meters in just 12 minutes. The cable car travels over an impressive waterfall (Ragnatscher Bach) and takes us up to the Palfries plateau.
This hike (starting at the mountain station) is also great fun for children. It is varied and not strenuous. The hiking trail leads over the Swiss stone pine-covered Chamm and then across the alpine meadow to the large parking lot. Shortly before the end of the hike, we come to the Palfries mountain inn, where we can enjoy the sweeping views of the southernmost mountains of the canton of St. Gallen and the Glarus Alps.
Geheimtipp
A walk along the pine-covered ridge makes children's hearts beat faster. Enjoy the view of the southernmost mountains of the canton of St. Gallen and the Glarus Alps from the Palfries mountain inn.
Ausrüstung
Day hiking backpack (approx. 20 liters) with rain cover, sturdy and comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate and hard-wearing clothing in multiple layers, telescopic poles if necessary, sun and rain protection, provisions and drinking water, first aid kit, pocket knife, cell phone, headlamp if necessary, maps
Wegbeschreibung
From the mountain station, we hike on the asphalted alpine road in a south-easterly direction to the parking lot on the Chamm. There we turn left through the fenced parking lot and along the striking border fence across the alpine meadow. At the top is a dry stone wall. Follow this for a few meters in a northerly direction and you will find yourself in front of a set-back bench where the entrance is located. This path winds its way through the sparse Swiss stone pine forest. Initially, the hiking trail climbs slightly and then leads leisurely through the rest of the forest. Soon we come across the crossing, white-red-white marked mountain path, which leads from the Wartau side over the Chamm to the Palfries plateau. There we turn off to the left and follow the mountain trail markings across the alpine meadow. After about 500 m, the path branches off to the left and shortly afterwards we join the road that leads us back to the starting point.
If we want to enjoy the alpine flora for a quarter of an hour longer, we don't turn off and continue the hike on the more or less level path until we reach the Alvier mountain trail (2342 m above sea level). Here we take the path downhill, where we will arrive at the parking lot belonging to the Palfires mountain inn within a very short time. The walking time from here back to the starting point (Palfries mountain station) is a quarter of an hour.
