The crown of the Surselva is an impressive and partly challenging circular hiking route from hut to hut in Graubünden. It connects the seven mountain huts in the Surselva – the anterior Rhine valley between Flims and the Rhine source at the Oberalp Pass, including the valleys Vals, Lumnezia, and Medel.

Beschreibung

After a comfortable, mostly flat part through the treeless Greina plateau, the ascent to Fuorcla Sura da Lavaz (2703m) follows. Descent over the small glacier da Lavaz and final ascent to the hut.

Medelser hut «The one with the wide view»

The Medelser hut SAC sits like an eagle's nest on a saddle at 2524m, in a magnificent, pristine mountain world with fantastic views. It has 55 beds and is owned by the Uto/Zurich section. Since the extension in 2006, the hut also has small rooms and a shower for guests. However, the original charm of the old hut has been retained. Thanks to its location and the view into infinity to the west and east, we count over 16 hours of sunshine up here in summer. Through the huge panoramic window, sunsets during dinner can be experienced directly and closely. We cook as regionally as possible and bake with Bündner organic mountain grain; our cake buffet is legendary. We pamper you with lovingly hut-made organic delicacies. And the eagle – it really visits us from time to time!

Sicherheitshinweis

Crampons can be helpful in autumn for crossing the glacier.

Warning: snowfields are possible in high-altitude sections until the summer months.

The route should not be started in uncertain weather conditions. Weather changes in the mountains are frequent. If a rain front or similar develops during the hike, you should turn back in time.

Ausrüstung

Good hiking boots with a good profile, weather-appropriate clothing (rain jacket/sun protection), change of clothes, first aid kit, drinks, food, GPS device, possibly hiking poles.
