Beschreibung

The pleasant route leaves the spa town of Bad Ragaz and climbs past the Freudenberg castle ruins with views of the Rhine and Seez valleys to the Vilterserberg. After a short descent over hiking trails and paved roads, it passes through Mels along the hillside following the Seez river and climbs the short ascent to Sargans Castle. The castle embodies two hundred years of county history and more than three centuries of varied Vogt rule. The count's castle houses one of Europe’s most significant local history museums and is a witness to the homeland history of the Sarganserland region. Additionally, the castle offers wonderful views over the surrounding villages and mountain scenery. After a short descent to the entrance of the Gonzen iron ore mine, where the Romans already mined iron ore, the route crosses the Sarganser Au. Along the Rhine dam, it continues to Giessenpark Bad Ragaz and back to the starting point at the Tamina Therme Bad Ragaz.

Geheimtipp

The Marien Grotto outside Mels was modeled after the world-famous Lourdes Grotto and invites for quiet reflection.

Ausrüstung

Normal bike equipment. Functional clothing is an advantage, as ascents and descents alternate.
