Beschreibung

The hike starts in Sils i.D. At the village church, follow the historic mule track that leads under the walls of Ehrenfels Castle up to Hohen Rätien at 948 m above sea level.

The settlement plateau Hohen Rätien served traders on their arduous journey through the Viamala Gorge and over the Splügen Pass to the south as a resting station.

The carefully restored fortified church is located on a scenic rock plateau high above the entrance to the Viamala Gorge and houses a special treasure, an early Christian baptismal font from the 4th/5th century.

Back at the hollow near the castle hill, follow the forest road across the meadows to Crap Carschenna (1,122 m). Enjoy the view over Domleschg and Heinzenberg. About 100 m north on the terrain edge, you will find mysterious Carschenna rock carvings, which were only discovered in 1965. The symbols carved into the stone probably date from the Bronze Age (around 1800 BC): circles, spirals, bowls, horses with riders and pack animals—a fascinating encounter with signs that are difficult to interpret.

Downhill, you will reach Campi (castle complex) via a pleasant forest road heading east, and from there a forest path leads back to Sils i.D.
