From Soglio via Savogno to Chiavenna - Via Panoramica

Although there is no great height difference between Soglio and Savogno, the path goes up and down, including through the wild Val Luver (the border valley between Switzerland and Italy) and over the Zernone stream. The route is very varied and can be an interesting extension of the well-known panoramic trail from Casaccia to Soglio. However, one should not be deceived by the short distances; the path is more strenuous than a quick look at the map suggests.

In Soglio at the parking lot in the western part of the village, the hike begins on a comfortable, flat little road up to the pastures of Dasciun. From here, you must carefully follow the narrow path cut into the steep slope. It leads to the stream in Val Luver, which marks the Swiss-Italian border. On the Italian side, the path crosses some rocky sections on a small suspension bridge, then goes over a metal staircase and finally continues through the forest. In this first section, you can often enjoy impressive views of the deep, wild valley.

The path then becomes a beautiful trail supported by stone walls and leads to the meadows near the former border guard barracks. At the western edge of the meadows begins a long descending path over the pastures, where you first reach the huts of Galleggione and then the footbridge over the Willdbach Zernone. Immediately after the little bridge, turn right, follow the stream, and then start a steep ascent with switchbacks, gaining several hundred meters in altitude and reaching the huts and pastures of Calestro (1182 m). After a short descent, you come to a fork with signposts where you leave the path and continue on a flat route, on which shortly after you must overcome a rather steep section with metal ropes. Shortly after, you reach some huts called "Monte del Togn", at the foot of a beautiful rock peak. The path continues through the forest, where you take another descending path and eventually come onto the trail coming up from Villa di Chiavenna. You cross a valley floor, which is mostly dry, and begin the final part of the route, which steadily and gently rises to Savogno. From Savogno, you can conveniently go down on the beautiful mule track or take the variant via the Acquaraggia waterfalls; both lead to Borgonuovo di Piuro and then to Chiavenna.
