Beschreibung

The blue-white marked hiking trail passes small lakes, over rocky rubble ridges, loose scree, and rock slabs. From Pass Casnil Sud you can enjoy a magnificent view and look directly at the impressive north face of Cima dal Cantun and the entire glaciated Forno basin. If you're lucky, you can even observe ibex.
Good surefootedness is required, but chains and climbing aids are installed at the most difficult places. The chains are usually installed at the beginning of summer.

Can be planned as a multi-day route with overnight stays at the Albigna or Forno hut. Or as a one-day route without ascent to the Forno hut.

Geheimtipp

Do a multi-day route with hut overnight stays - see Sentiero Alpino Bregaglia

Sicherheitshinweis

Challenging mountain hike on a blue-white route. There are several exposed sections secured with chains. Surefootedness is required.

The safety installations and chains along the path are usually installed at the beginning of summer. Check in advance with the huts whether the path is already passable. Walking without installed chains is strongly discouraged!!

Ausrüstung

Mountain hiking boots, possibly bring an ice axe

Wegbeschreibung

Following the blue-white marked hiking trail, the path goes up past the small lakes and over a distinctive rocky rubble ridge to Pass Casnil Sud at 2940 m. One section between the small lakes and Pass Casnil requires some caution but is equipped with handholds and footholds.
From Pass Casnil Sud you can enjoy a magnificent view looking directly at the impressive north face of Cima dal Cantun. If you're lucky, you can even observe ibex. From the pass, the path then goes down over loose scree (still snow-covered early in summer; possibly bring an ice axe) into a wide rubble basin.

At the end of this, the trail turns left and soon reaches the section secured with chains and iron rungs under the ridge spur of the Piz Casnil East ridge. Surefootedness is required here. Less experienced hikers can use a climbing harness with via ferrata set for added safety. The trail continues down over rock slabs into the Forno valley and further down past Lake Cavloc to Maloja.
