Fuorcla Valletta

Starting at the Promulins Arena in Samedan: You head to Muntarütsch, where the first ascent of the day awaits you along the alpine path to Alp Muntatsch. Even before reaching this alp, you will be rewarded with magnificent views of the Bernina massif and beyond St. Moritz up to Piz da la Margna. Leave Alp Muntatsch behind by following the relatively flat path to Alp Munt. From there, the Panoramatrail below Piz Padella takes you to Munt da la Bês-cha da Schlarigna, where you turn right to tackle another steep and rocky ascent. Always with the distinctive three mountain peaks of Trais Fluors in sight, you head over Selin to the chairlift mountain station of Trais Fluors. From here, the trail’s culmination point, Fuorcla Valletta, is only about 100 meters higher, which you reach after crossing a rocky slope. From Fuorcla Valletta, the view opens to Valletta da Samedan, the small valley between the striking Piz Ot and the Samedan local mountain Piz Padella, which, however, is not as beautiful from behind as it is seen from Samedan.

Now the descent through the Valletta begins. At first, the path is quite steep, but once you reach the valley floor, you pass the Funtauna Fraida and the trail becomes wonderfully flat and flowing. It leads past the weather station under Sass Alv to Margunin, where at the fountain in front of the shepherd's hut you can enjoy the wonderfully refreshing water of Funtauna Fraida. From Margunin, the beautiful panorama of the Bernina massif is also presented, and looking downhill you can see almost to Zernez.

The path to Alp Munt now becomes a bit steeper again. If you still have enough time, a break detour from Alp Munt to Alp Muntatsch is worthwhile: homemade alpine specialties such as dried meat and cheese invite you to indulge, as does the fluffy Kaiserschmarrn, which is an absolute insider tip among runners, hikers, and bikers. With this option, you reach Samedan directly from Alp Muntatsch. Otherwise, the route leads from Alp Munt via a technically demanding trail directly through God da Muntatsch to the San Peter cemetery above Samedan. Via Chiss, the path then takes you through the village back to the Promulins Arena.
