Gafarrabüel

The Weisstannental is rich in legends. High above the valley, for example, lies a plateau on which even gruesome things are said to have happened in the past. The Romanesque field name Gafarrabüel suggests that the alp was already known in pre-Christian times. On a flat surface above the alpine hut lies the old, legendary Hexentanzplatz. Witches, valley dwellers and, as can be seen from trial files, also the noble canons of the Carolingian convent Schänis are said to have gathered here and celebrated happy festivals.
