Beschreibung
The Pizol area is known for its breathtaking views over the St. Gallen Rhine Valley to Lake Constance. Nowhere else can the view be enjoyed so undisturbed as from the highest peaks of the hiking area. The hike to the Garmil is part of the summit quartet at Pizol. The stages Garmil, Gamidauerspitz, Hochwart and Pizol can all be done independently but also combined as desired.
On the hike to Garmil we experience exciting views into the UNESCO World Heritage Tectonic Arena Sardona. Information panels line parts of the trail and you learn interesting geology facts along the way.
The view from the summit to the surrounding mountain world and the Sarganserland is simply breathtaking. Flora and fauna can be especially beautifully admired in early summer.
Geheimtipp
The mountain hotel Gaffia is the ideal overnight option and starting point for this route, especially for combinations of the summit quartet.

Wegbeschreibung
The route starts at the Gaffia station, which is accessible by gondola and chairlifts of the Pizol cable cars from Wangs and via Furt. From the station, we hike towards the small alpine hut on the other side of the mountain stream. After a few meters, there is already a place to stop at the old Alp Gaffia. Below the small alpine hut, the hiking trail starts towards Garmil. Following the babbling mountain stream, we take the first ascent to Chrutplangg underfoot. To the south, we admire the striking Gamidaurspitz. At Basürla, we branch off and after another short climb reach Garmil, which rewards us with a magnificent panoramic view.
For the return, we have various combination options:
- Continue to Fürggli, where we then branch off towards Furt. On the zigzag path, you go down to Vollenplangg and then Fälli, both belonging to Alp Mugg. On the last ascent, enjoy the magnificent view again into the St. Gallen Rhine Valley before reaching the Bildstöckli of St. Brother Klaus. After a few minutes you reach Furt, the end point of the hike.
- Same way back
- Combinations with the summit quartet or the 5-lakes hike
