Gonzen

We start the hike at the Palfries mountain station. With the Palfries cable car, we previously overcame about 1,250 meters of altitude in just 12 minutes. The cable car goes over an impressive waterfall (Ragnatscher Bach) and takes us up to the Palfries plateau.

We start a moderate, rewarding mountain hike to the Gonzen summit cross. At the destination, there is an impressive view over the Rhine Valley and the nearby mountains of the Principality of Liechtenstein as well as the Bündner mountains; the small town of Sargans with its castle lies at our feet.

At the Gonzen cross we have a magnificent view. Here we can also repeatedly watch paragliders making their rounds.

We start the moderate hike in a south-eastern direction past the Chamm to the parking lot. There we leave the paved alpine road and take the path towards Alp Riet (Rieter hut). The gently descending hiking trail initially leads through wetlands, which are partly spanned by "wooden bridges", and then over alpine pastures to the mentioned Rieter huts. From there a cart path leads up to Alp Folla. The mountain path branches off to the left. Over pastureland and along the ridge covered with mountain pines and shrubs, we hike towards our goal, the Gonzen summit cross.
