Heuschrecken-Kurs im Parc Ela

So far, 115 species of locusts have been recorded in Switzerland. The group is relatively well researched and the presence of specialized species allows statements to be made about the habitat quality. The locusts are therefore of important importance in practical nature conservation. Most species can be easily observed and many of them can be identified directly in the field by means of morphological and acoustic characteristics.
On two course days, environmental engineer André Besimo (Limenitis Ökobüro Besimo GmbH, Portein) teaches the basics of locust identification. On the first day, the species in dry habitats will be discussed. On the second day, the focus will be on species in alpine and humid habitats. The knowledge imparted in theory is tested in practice on excursions in the afternoons and species identification is practiced in the field.
