Chapel Disentis Sedrun
Kapelle S. Benedetg

Beschreibung
History: In the faction Sogn Benedetg above Sumvitg there has been a remarkable church since 1988. This is the chapel of St. Benedict, which had to be completely rebuilt after being destroyed by an avalanche in 1984. When it came to rebuilding the chapel, which had been destroyed to the ground, it was decided, after some back and forth, not to reconstruct the church in the conventional style. Peter Zumthor then created the new chapel in a nearby, but safer location in what at first glance appears to be an unconventional design. The newly built wooden church fits perfectly into the landscape in its modern construction. Wooden shingles cover the chapel, which may be reminiscent of a boat or an ark in its shape. Next to the building stands the bell bearer of the chapel in the form of a ladder, while not far from it a fountain trough is fed from a simple, winding pipe.
It is also worth visiting the remains of the old chapel that still exist. (Directly on the access road)
