Beschreibung
This steep, sweaty mountain tour requires surefootedness and a moderate head for heights.
We start the hike at the Palfries mountain station. The Palfriesbahn cable car takes us up around 1,250 meters in just 12 minutes. The cable car travels over an impressive waterfall (Ragnatscher Bach) and takes us up to the Palfries plateau.
The hike takes us from the mountain station past the Berggastahus Palfries in the direction of "in de Stei". From there, a steep ascent starts up to the Alvier. With a bit of luck, we may spot the very rare edelweiss along the way. On the Alvier, we are rewarded with a magnificent view (as far as Lake Constance in clear weather).
Geheimtipp
It's worth waiting for the sunset on the Alvier summit and then spending the night in the Alvierhütte - an unforgettably beautiful nature experience!
Sicherheitshinweis
Ridge hike that requires surefootedness. White-red-white marked mountain paths.
Ausrüstung
Day hiking backpack (approx. 20 liters) with rain cover, sturdy and comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate and hard-wearing clothing in multiple layers, telescopic poles if necessary, sun and rain protection, provisions and drinking water, first aid kit, pocket knife, cell phone, headlamp if necessary, maps
Wegbeschreibung
From the Palfries mountain station, the trail first leads along the road (in a north-westerly direction) to the Palfires mountain inn. After the large parking lot, we branch off to the right; across alpine meadows, the ascent is leisurely at first, then increasingly steeper. From 1800 m above sea level, the trail becomes quite alpine. In a chimney gully, we climb between the rocks using a wooden ladder to the ridge exit at Chemmi. Looking back, you can see the Flums Mountains with the striking Spitzmeilen and Lake Walen.
Continue along the rugged south ridge, which is repeatedly secured with ropes and chains in difficult places, to the Alvierhütte and the summit plateau of the Alvier (2342 m.a.s.l.). The steep ascent is well worth it; the unique 360° panoramic view opens up to us here. Lake Walen, Lake Constance and the Rhine Valley, the Glarus Alps, the Voralberg peaks and, on a clear day, the Tyrolean and Engadine mountains provide a fabulous panorama all around.
