When soil and rock material mixes with water during heavy precipitation and falls downhill, it is called a rue or a debris flow. Due to the large mass and the usually high speeds, debris flows have a destructive effect. On 16 November 2002, a debris flow from Val Rascher carried 40,000 cubic metres of debris and deposited it in the area of Item 2. This corresponds to about 6000 truckloads. The largest stone blocks weigh over 100 tons. The debris flow has knocked down around 1200 trees.
