The start is challenging right away: at the southern edge of the village of San Bernardino, a climb awaits the cross-country skiers. The trail winds through enchanting fir forest almost up to the Alp de Pian Doss. Always in view: the striking, pyramid-shaped Pizzo Uccello, the landmark of San Bernardino.
Underneath the alp, the trail goes with gentle ups and downs to the shores of Lago Dosso. Dreamily it lies there, the small, post-glacial moor lake; nestled in a peat hollow, surrounded by loose mountain forest. Incredible that it can be so quiet in the immediate vicinity of the heavily trafficked north-south axis. Being quiet is worth it: with patience and a bit of luck, especially from February, animals can be observed that spend the winter here sheltered from snowstorms and pampered by the sun. A unique experience, typical for the southern Alpine region.
From the lake, you can reach the Fornas quarters, south of the village, again within a few minutes. In the cozy bar, tired legs can relax and numb fingers can be warmed up with a drink. The touch of Italianità comes free of charge.
