Beschreibung
For thousands of years, the Bernina Pass has been an important regional link between the Upper Engadine and Valposchiavo and the neighbouring Valtellina. To the southeast of the pass, an imposing mountain, Piz Campasc, rises into the sky. The ascent to the summit and back takes just under two and a half hours. This is a nice half day hike. About two-thirds of the route is almost flat. Numerous ponds and ponds adorn the plateau around the pass, which is dotted with hills and valleys. As soon as you arrive at the foot of Piz Campasc, the terrain and character of the trail change completely. Passing a ridge-like shoulder and crossing the steep southeast flank, you reach the summit on a narrow and sometimes somewhat exposed rocky path. At the top, a unique panoramic view opens up: the terrain descends in steps into the Poschiavo Valley, the Piz Palü rises above the Lago Bianco and the crown of peaks of the Upper Engadine extends northwards.
Geheimtipp
Usually the route follows the same route from Piz Campasc to the top of the Bernina Pass. A picturesque variant branches off halfway to Lago Bianco and from there leads slightly above the shore to the Ospizio Bernina train station.
Wegbeschreibung
The route is signposted as a mountain hiking trail (white-red-white, difficulty level T3). The starting point is the Ospizio Bernina railway station or the slightly higher Ospizio Bernina/Albergo post bus stop. Initially on a more or less flat path, it goes to the foot of the Piz Campasc. The ascent to the summit requires attention and prudence: the path crosses some partially exposed couloirs; it is only suitable for sure-footed mountaineers with a head for heights.
