Beschreibung

An alpine route leads to the Pizol summit at 2844m. For safety reasons, this route was moved from the Pizol glacier into the rocks and is marked blue and white. Steel ropes are also used as handrails in places exposed to rockfall.

You reach the marked path with the gondola and chair lifts Wangs - Furt - Gaffia up to the Pizolhütte. The ascent to the Wildseelücke begins there. Once in the gap you enjoy a magnificent view of the Wildsee, the Pizol summit and the Grauen Hörner. Along the Wildsee you go up towards Pizolsattel and then to the summit.

The Pizol is a massive block peak with two summit points separated by a small saddle. The higher south summit carries a small summit cross with a summit book, the slightly lower north summit a small stone man. The first documented ascent was made on 15 August 1864 by Emil Frey-Gessner.

Geheimtipp

The neighbouring lavinahorns are just as beautiful and exciting as the Pizol summit. The twelve horns stand between Pizol and Hochwart, are wild and very lonely in contrast to the Pizol.

Sicherheitshinweis

The route to the Pizol summit is an alpine route and is marked blue and white. Surefootedness and a head for heights are required.

Day hiking backpack (approx. 20 liters) with rain cover, sturdy and comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate and hard-wearing clothing in multiple layers, telescopic poles if necessary, sun and rain protection, provisions and drinking water, first aid kit, pocket knife, cell phone, headlamp if necessary, maps

Wegbeschreibung

We reach the Pizolhütte by cable car and chairlift from Wangs via Furt and Gaffia. From there we start the hike with the first ascent on the route of the famous 5-lake hike. We zigzag up to the Wildseeluggen. Here we branch off to the left and hike in the scree past the lake towards Pizolsattel. The next ascent was moved from the Pizol glacier to the rock for safety reasons. Steel cables are used as handrails in exposed places. Once at the saddle, we continue to the right along the ridge until we reach the Pizol summit from behind.

Öffentliche Verkehrsmittel

By train to Sargans, then by bus to the bus stop Wangs, Pizolbahnen. Take the cable car and chair lifts to the Pizolhütte.
