Sections of the route between Preda, Bergün and Filisur are among the most spectacular anywhere in the world. On the new "Railway Adventure Trail Albula", which runs parallel to the railway line, you will experience, on your own two feet, the perfect interplay of landscape and technology. Panels along the three hiking stages between the Albula tunnel and the Landwasser Viaduct provide current and historical information that gives a fascinating and fresh insight into the world of the railway, its technology, cultural impact and everyday operations, as well as into the everyday life of the people living in the Albula Valley. The Railway Adventure Trail Albula is located in the largest nature park in Switzerland. The Parc Ela has a diverse countryside around the alpine passes of Albula, Julier an Septimer.

Hike: This exciting hike takes you along the railway line and past the impressive engineering structures of the UNESCO World Heritage Rhaetian Railway. The information panels along the route feature interesting details about the pioneering achievements needed to embed the railway line into this wild landscape. There are also fascinating stories that make this information accessible to the children.

Stage 1: Preda - Bergün

Starts: Preda (1,789 m.a.s.l.)

Ends: Bergün (1,373 m.a.s.l.)

Distance: 7.0 km

Description: (T2) Moderate hike on well-made but sometimes narrow paths. Short, steep ascent in the Rugnux spiral tunnel area.

Stage 2: Bergün - Filisur

Starts: Bergün (1,373 m.a.s.l.)

Ends: Filisur (1,080 m.a.s.l.)

Walking time: 3 hours 15 min to 3 hours 45 min (indicative only)*

Ascent/descent: approx. 250 / 540 altitude metres

Distance: 9.0 km

Description: (T2) Moderate hike on mainly well-made but sometimes narrow paths. Steep descent from Stuls Station down to the cantonal road. Section Bellaluna - Filisur easy (T2) mountain hike.

Stage 3: Filisur - Landwasser Viaduct - Filisur

Starts: Filisur (1,080 m.a.s.l.)

Ends: Filisur (1,080 m.a.s.l.)

Walking time: 1 hour 30 min (indicative only)*

Ascent/descent: approx. 200 / 200 altitude metres

Distance: 5.0 km

The Lai da Palpuogna is an oasis of relaxation with its crystal-clear water and larch forest. Linger at one of the picnic areas with a fire pit. You can reach the "most beautiful spot in Switzerland" from Preda train station.

This over 100 year-old railway stretch over the Albula and Bernina passes is a masterpiece of construction engineering and line layout. Since July 2008 the Albula and Bernina lines of the Rhaetian Railway are part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

Landwasserviadukt

The Landwasser Viaduct is one of the most famous structures in Graubünden and the most spectacular bridge structure of the RhB. Since 2008, the Landwasser Viaduct has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In the summer of 2025, the Landwasserwelt - the adventure world around the Landwasser Viaduct - will open its doors.
