Beschreibung

At Valendas station, we cross the railway line and follow it a short distance eastwards until the path descends into the bright floodplain forest at the Vorderrhein. This hike is especially charming in early summer, when the floodplain forests shine in bright, fresh green and the Rhine carries much water.

At the Carreratobel gorge, we go under the railway line and ascend via the clearing of Au. In a wide arc, we bypass the larger clearing Isla a little higher up.

We enjoy a beautiful view over the clearing below us and the entire western section of the Ruinaulta.

Now the path descends again to the narrow valley floor. We are now back at the Rhine. On beautiful summer days, we can observe many canoeists enjoying so-called river rafting here. Above all, we admire the rugged rock walls and towers on the steep opposite hillside.

Our path now leads with gentle ups and downs directly under the caves, towers, and gorges of the bizarre erosion landscape. This section is rightfully considered the most interesting and adventurous gorge landscape in Europe — also called the “Grand Canyon” of Switzerland. Suddenly, we find ourselves in front of the small station of Versam. A cozy restaurant invites us to linger a while at this fantastic place before the Rhaetian Railway brings us back to Chur.
