Beschreibung

From Ilanz, the route follows the Vorderrhein through a floodplain of national importance into the heart of the gorge to Versam Station. The Rhine Gorge is characterized by sandstone walls up to 300 metres high. The "Swiss Grand Canyon" offers unforgettable fauna and flora. As there is no continuous hiking trail between Versam Station and Trin Station, this section must be covered on the Rhaetian Railway. From Trin station, the route continues on foot. The trail leads along the riverbank to Reichenau, where the Vorderrhein and Hinterrhein rivers meet. R(h)in and out with the Rhine Gorge Ticket: With the Rhine Gorge Ticket, you can travel through the Rhine Gorge by train and post bus as often as you like throughout the day.

Please note: The Versam Station-Trin Station section is not accessible due to the terrain and must therefore be covered by Rhaetian Railway. Due to the timetable change in 2025, the Rhaetian Railway will no longer take you directly from Versam to Trin. Please take the train to Chur and from there back to Trin.

Geheimtipp

You will find numerous rest areas and fire pits along the way. Please use firewood sparingly.

There are refreshment stops at the train stations in Valendas, Versam and Trin.

Sicherheitshinweis

Please note: There is no hiking trail near the river between Versam Station and Trin Station and the area may not be walked on (nature conservation). This section must therefore be covered by the Rhaetian Railway.

For those in good physical condition, a hiking trail leads from Versam Station via Pintrun and Trin Digg to Trin Station in around 3 hours. The hiking time from Ilanz to Reichenau is then over 7 hours.

The hiking trail between Trin Station and Reichenau is closed during the winter season due to the danger of falling rocks. Please note the closure on the map function.

The tour should not be undertaken in uncertain weather conditions. Weather changes are frequent in the mountains. If a rain front or similar approaches during the hike, you should turn back in good time.

Ausrüstung

Good hiking boots with a good profile or trekking shoes, clothing suitable for the weather (rain jacket/sun protection), drink, possibly food, possibly hiking poles.

From Chur, Ilanz train station is easily accessible with an idyllic ride through the Rhine Gorge. The hike can be shortened by taking the Rhaetian Railway. The exact connections can be found on the SBB website: www.sbb.ch

Anreise Information

Ilanz can be reached from both Chur and Disentis/Mustér via route 19.

There is a large paid parking lot directly at the train station in Ilanz and another smaller parking lot at the train station in Castrisch (also paid).

At the end of the massive Rhine Gorge you will find the Wackenau viewing platform. It is named after the ruins above it. It can be reached via Trin Station or Bonaduz. The observation deck is accessible from May to October.
