Riom
The village of Riom is located on the eastern slope of Piz Toissa high, above the valley floor with the Gelgia. It stands out from the surrounding villages by a striking castle. The villagescape of Riom has been designated as a "townscape of national importance".

Beschreibung

The striking and widely visible castle "Rätia Ampla" characterizes the village and the lower Val Surses. From the 19th century onwards, it was more or less abandoned to decay. From 2003 it was expanded by the theologian and theatre scholar Dr. Giovanni Netzer from the valley as a venue for the "Origen Festival Cultural" founded by him and opened in 2006. This is how one of the most idiosyncratic theatre spaces in the Alps was created. In 2018, the supporting foundation "Nova Fundaziun Origen" received the Wakker Prize. The castle walls are home to the largest grey jackdaw colony in Switzerland. In the Villa Carisch on the village square, the confectionery tradition of the Carisch family is celebrated. In various salons, pâtisseries as well as coffee and tea specialties are served. In the textile workshop "Atelier Pôss", in addition to cushions and duvets made of local sheep's wool, the stage costumes for the performances of "Origen" are handmade.
