Following in the footsteps of herbalist Künzle, the free Walser, medieval pilgrims and pre-Christian worshippers, you climb - unlike your predecessors - the Basegglagrat ridge from Gaffia and then reach the legendary Schwarzsee lake. The initial ascent is steep. Following the flank, you ascend to Lake Baschalva. From here you climb the ridge and continue along the Basegglagrat ridge with its Steinmanndli and, after a short descent, reach the Schwarzsee lake, from where you descend back to Gaffia along the same route. If you hike the route as an outward and return journey, you have the advantage of experiencing the trail in different ways.
Rock towers: The mountain trail initially leads you along the flank. Despite the incline, it is easy going and you quickly gain altitude. Think of the old pilgrims who had to climb up from the valley. The path leads you out of the flank and changes direction. From one step to the next, you find yourself in a kind of enchanted garden. Stop and look at the bizarre rock towers. Like petrified creatures, they crouch beside the path as guardians of the place. You are caught up in a veritable maelstrom of forces here. The rock creatures seem to possess life, their energies are almost tangible
Baschalvasee: The forces of the green Baschalvasee are more moderate, but no less intense. In terms of the prevailing energy qualities, it would be possible to establish a place of worship here.
Steinmanndli: Once you reach the fascinating stone objects, the oldest of which are said to date back to prehistoric times, you can first enjoy the fantastic view. Take a rest on the round hill between the stone towers and soak up the prevailing vibrations. In ancient times, this was a place of worship and sacrifice. The energies are of high intensity and their radiant quality indicates ritual acts. In Christian times, there is evidence of pilgrimages and supplications to Baseggla.
Schwarzsee: After a short descent, you reach the Schwarzsee. According to legend, the lake is the home of a black bull that came out of the water during a thunderstorm and was injured by an Alpine farmhand. The bull then haunted him into his dreams. The injured animal lived in the right place, as it is an energetically powerful place. Can you feel the magical atmosphere that surrounds the small, stony lake?
