Sargans - Gonzen - Hotel Alvier - Oberschan

We climb up to the castle and enjoy the panoramic view. On the steep road we hike to the hamlet of Unterprod and past well-kept farms to the Gonzenwald. Along the supplication stations we reach the Erzbildkapelle, then we hike on the narrow mountain path to the signpost Gonzen, above which the Gonzenleiter is anchored. We follow this path to the ruins of the old miner's house to the rock face. From here on, only experienced and vertigo-free people should continue. On the narrow mountain footbridge we reach the iron ladder and climb up to the platform of the second ladder and on this to the forest path, which we follow through mixed forest and meadows to the Älpli and into the Rieterwald. On partly narrow and wet paths we go to the Luterbach, which we cross on the wooden bridge, then we climb up to Oberhus on the Walserberg. Via the steep meadow path we reach the Berghaus Gonzen. The route continues to Alp Riet and the Rieter huts, then the ascent to the Gonzen summit follows. A magnificent panoramic view of the Rhine and Seez valleys, the "Ländle" and the surrounding mountains rewards us. For the descent to Oberhus we use the same path. Then it goes via Rungg and Lanaberg to the Maiengut and over the suspension bridge to the alpine hut Frohsinn. On the road we reach the pretty forest floor, then we descend to the Kurhaus Alvier.
