Beschreibung

The starting point is Werdenberg Castle, which was built in the 13th century and is now used as a cultural site and museum. Through the beautiful mixed forest in Valcupp, the castle path leads to Ortisei, a former Walser settlement. After crossing the army grounds in Magletsch, the village of Gretschins follows with its landmark, the Romanesque St. Martin's Church and a large lime tree. On the hill opposite stands the ruins of Wartau Castle. Between vineyards, the Schlossweg follows the course of the well-known Via Alpina. From Trübbach, the Schlossweg leads along the more than 500-year-old Schollbergstrasse, which was drawn along the mountainside because of the then still wild Rhine, to Vild. Here is the entrance to the disused Gonzen iron mine, which can be visited on guided tours and has an "underground" restaurant. Sargans Castle, the destination of the hike, now serves as a restaurant and museum.
