Beschreibung

On the path that was once really used for smuggling to Italy, you learn a lot about the smuggling era: about the goods, the smugglers themselves, but also about tricks and tactics on how to move to avoid possible dangers. The reasons for smuggling were varied. A lack of certain goods, high tariffs, and different legislation of territorial lords and states as well as bans and penalties promoted the secret, illicit border crossing. These trips were not always safe and often had to be carried out in the dark of night.

The smuggler experience in Maloja is an ideal combination of activity in nature, experience and learning, as well as play and fun in the family or group circle. Children are motivated to hike in the mountains and actively experience the landscape. Adults should not get bored either. It is an attractive mountain hike that takes you back hundreds of years and brings you closer to the history of the region and the life of earlier generations.

Geheimtipp

Ideal for children aged 5 to 12 years.

Sicherheitshinweis

Good  hiking boots, suntan cream and rain protections.

Good trekking shoes, sunscreen, and rain protection are recommended.

Wegbeschreibung

From the Orden parking lot, go right over the dam. A few meters further on is the first station of the smuggler's path. From here, you hike through an enchanted larch forest, always following the signs and the hat symbol, to the Bitabergh Lake. The path crosses the hiking trail to the lake several times along the way.
