Stausee Santa Maria

The Sontga Maria reservoir forms a single water management system connected by pipes with the Lai da Nalps and Lai da Curnera reservoirs, which are located in neighbouring valleys. The hydroelectric power plant is located in Sedrun

The 117 m high arch dam of Santa Maria was completed in 1968. At the 560 m long top of the wall, the wall is 8 m wide, at the foot it measures 21 m. The lake is connected by an approximately 8800 m long pressure tunnel with the Lai da Nalps reservoir to the northwest in a neighbouring valley.

The discovery of a Roman coin hoard near Malvaglia indicates that the Lukmanier Pass was already visited at that time

In 1374, the monastery built a hospice dedicated to St. Mary below the top of the pass

In 1964, the hospice and chapel had to make way for the reservoir. Both were rebuilt on the pass road. The new hospice was inaugurated on August 1, 1965.
