Valley of the Sett

Beschreibung
The valley of the Sett is one of the most beautiful high mountain moor landscapes in the Central Alps and has an exceptionally high density of large flat moors by alpine standards. The most heavily bogged areas are located near Tgavretga and in the high valley of the Plang Camfer; they are mainly limestone and acidic small sedge reeds. Their formation and characteristics are very different due to the small-scale change of rock: the fens are found on flysch, on moraine material, in an alluvial plain and on impermeable rock. All the main types of peatland formation in the Alpine region occur here. The moorland landscape is only accessible on the valley floor, but is largely free of structural interventions. On the slopes there are untouched areas with the smallest patches of moorland. At lower altitudes, moors used as litter meadows blend into a traditional pattern of use of meadows and small pastures.
