Classic ski tour in the Beverin Nature Park: This moderately difficult tour starts in the mountain village of Wergenstein (1487 m) and leads over sun-drenched slopes to the idyllically situated Cufercalhütte SAC at 2385 m above sea level.
With around 900 to 1000 metres of ascent, the route is ideal as the first stage of a multi-day tour and offers wide views of the Val Schons. Depending on the conditions, ambitious skiers have the option of extending the tour via the challenging Gelbhorn (Piz Mellen). The starting point of this classic ski tour in the Beverin Nature Park is the mountain village of Wergenstein at 1487 m above sea level. With a view of the Val Schons, we begin the ascent over open, sun-drenched slopes and sparse forest sections.
The route to the Cufercalhütte is physically demanding, but without major technical difficulties. With around 900 to 1000 meters of ascent and a walking time of about 3.5 to 4.5 hours, it is a moderately difficult day tour.
Depending on the snow and avalanche conditions, the mountain guides choose the optimal route into the high alpine silence:
- Normal route via Alp Nurdagn (WS – little difficult): The steady ascent over the slopes above Dumagns and Nurdagn is the most popular and more direct approach to the hut.
- Sporty variant over the Gelbhorn (ZS – Quite difficult): For participants in good shape, there is the possibility to include the challenging Gelbhorn (Piz Mellen, 3036 m) in the tour. This variant is rated as ZS and requires very good fitness (over 1500 m elevation gain) and safe conditions.
After reaching the upper high valley, often characterized by the striking Lai Pintg, the final ascent to the Cufercalhütte SAC at 2385 m above sea level follows. It is located on a beautiful pasture terrace at the southern foot of Piz Calandari and offers a magnificent view of Piz Tambo after the ascent.

Öffentliche Verkehrsmittel
Train: Take the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) or the SBB to Thusis station.
Postbus: From Thusis, take the Postbus in the direction of Mathon / Wergenstein. The Wergenstein stop is located directly in the village. Please check the current timetable as connections may be limited on weekends or in low season.
Anreise Information
Take the A13 (Chur–San Bernardino) to the Thusis Süd / Schams / Zillis exit. Then follow the cantonal road (Schamserbergstraße) in the direction of Lohn / Wergenstein.
