5 tips on the ViaValtellina:
- Walser settlement Schlappin and Schlappinsee: Walser settlement Schlappin with the picturesque Schlappinsee. A perfect photo motif.
- Dischma Valley and Dürrboden: At the end of the Dischma Valley near Davos, you reach the historic mountain inn.
- Ospiz Chapella: Already about 700 years ago, S-chanf in the Engadine was an important place for travelers.
- Chesa Merleda in La Punt: A short stop is worthwhile; this house is one of the most prominent "burgher houses" in Graubünden.
- San Romerio: The pilgrimage church and mountain hut lie 800 meters above Lake Poschiavo.
On a former muleteer route for Valtellina wine, the ViaValtellina leads from Montafon across the Schlappiner Joch, Scaletta and Bernina passes to Tirano in the Valtellina. The long-distance route through a diverse alpine natural and cultural landscape can be divided into seven daily stages.
From the German-speaking Walser settlements in Montafon, Prättigau and the Davos region through the Romansh high valley of the Engadine to the Italian-speaking valleys of Poschiavo and Valtellina, three language regions are crossed. From the harsh alpine climate on the passes to the southern-flavored Tirano, you hike through several vegetation zones.
World-famous holiday resorts such as Schruns, Klosters, Davos or Pontresina alternate with lonely side valleys like the Schlappin Valley or the Val Funtauna. Picturesque hamlets with melodious names such as Susauna, Chapella or San Romerio invite you to linger on the way. And at the sight of the mighty mountain world of the Bernina, hardly anyone thinks of the vineyards and palazzi waiting 30 km further south in Tirano.
