8 kilometres from Vals into the valley lies the Zerfreilasee. The name of the reservoir comes from the mountain village of Zerfreila, which was flooded in 1957. More than 50 years later, the small hydroelectric power plant supplies valuable and sustainable electricity. From the dam wall or from the Zerfreila chapel, the view of the mountains of Vals with the striking rock pyramid of the Zerfreilahorn is particularly beautiful.
