We hike on the debris field of the Flims landslide, which buried the Rhine Valley 9,500 years ago. Over the course of almost 10,000 years, a unique water and natural landscape has developed on this wasteland, as it could not be used for agriculture or other human activities. We first walk to Lake Cauma and find out where the water and its bright green-blue color come from. Then we continue to the edge of the spectacular Rhine valley "Ruinaulta", where the water of the Rhine has eaten its way up to 500 meters deep into the landslide scree, creating the "Swiss Grand Canyon". We hike along the edge with beautiful views of the Rhine valley to the Conn viewing platform and then stop off at the Conn restaurant. We return directly to the Caumasee bus stop, or you can book a horse-drawn carriage (if it is running). On the tour you will learn everything that research has discovered about the landslide, the largest in the Alps since historic times.
Optional: Descent into the Ruinaulta Gorge and return journey on the Rhaetian Railway.
