Beschreibung
This circular route is perfect for e-bikers. The Flumser Kleinberg entices with low-traffic roads, beautiful mountain pastures, and a magnificent panorama. Thanks to the e-bike charging station at Berghotel Schönhalden, the battery can be well utilized for the considerable number of elevation meters. The descent on an easy single trail is varied, both in terms of surroundings and surface. And yet, the route is always easy to ride. The first highlight is the Berghotel Schönhalden with good food and wonderful views. The second highlight is the nature reserve with the beautifully embedded Chapfensee and various intact peat bogs.
Geheimtipp
Join the E-Bike Beizen Trophy: collect 12 stamps and receive a gourmet greeting at the end of the season.
Sicherheitshinweis
The ascent to the Berghotel Schönhalden mainly follows paved roads. The descent includes a section of gravel road and a short stretch of natural path. Uncertain e-bikers should use the ascent route for descent.
Ausrüstung
Normal bike equipment. Functional clothing is advantageous since a long descent follows a longer ascent.
Wegbeschreibung
Ideally, the ride to the Berghotel Schönhalden starts at the Flums train station, where the circular route also ends. Via Bahnhofstrasse and Marktstrasse, you reach Bergstrasse, which you cross at the height of the St. Laurentius Church. Here, you now follow Feldstrasse, which continues as Clevelaustrasse after a few hundred meters. From here, you are on the Switzerland Mobility Route 474 Chapfensee-Bike, but in the opposite direction. Always follow the course of this route, passing various farms and the Maria Lourdes Chapel. After about 10 kilometers and around 770 meters of elevation gained, you reach the former Sässeliwiese restaurant. Here, you leave the Chapfensee-Bike route and instead follow the wider road uphill. From here, you continue on the last part of the ascent, where over 4 kilometers, another 300 meters of elevation are covered. The private road, which soon becomes a gravel road, is allowed to be used by bikers.
The descent route first leads back to Sässeliwiese and then again follows the Switzerland Mobility Route 474 Chapfensee-Bike (opposite direction). Up to "Gafröa" you are on a gravel road, which is more or less flat. From Gafröa, the path now leads past 2 streams to Plons. The way now descends towards "Gigerberge" at point 1019. A short climb of about 50 meters leads to the Chapfensee nature reserve. The kiosk invites you for another refreshment before you circle the nature reserve on gravel roads and finally head downwards towards Mels at the east end of the lake. Arriving in Mels, the route follows the partially beautifully renaturalized Seez river back to the starting point in Flums.
