The high-altitude hike to Garmil is located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Tectonic Arena Sardona" and can be experienced using multimedia. With your smartphone, you will receive exciting audio and visual information about the geological history of the Garmil at nine stations. The local legends about the valuable rock in the Pizol region lend the GeoTour Garmil a mystical touch.
Audio guide
With our new acoustic hiking guide, you can learn interesting facts about geology along the Garmil High Trail.
The audio guide is available free of charge via the Outdooractive app (iOS/Android) and via outdooractive.com. In order for the content to be displayed, the new "Audio guide" function must be activated in the three-dot menu in the map (bottom right). If you select a particular hike, you will see the available audio experience points along the route. The new audio files are also ideal for inspiration. Simply browse through the audio files in the map overview and then decide on a tour. The optional GPS tracking and navigation mode enable automatic playback while you are on the move - whether on foot, on the bus, train or bike.

Wegbeschreibung
The tour starts at the Gaffia station, which can be reached by Pizolbahnen gondola and chairlift from Wangs and via the ford. From the station, follow the signposts in the direction of Baschalvasee. After a few meters, there is already a refreshment stop at the old Alp Gaffia. Along the gurgling mountain stream, we take the first ascent to Chrutplangg under our feet. To the south, we admire the striking Gamidaurspitz. We branch off at Basürla and, after another short ascent, reach the Garmil, which rewards us with a magnificent panoramic view.
There are various possible combinations for the way back:
- Continue to Fürggli, where we then branch off in the direction of Furt. The zigzag path takes us down to Vollenplangg and Fälli, both of which belong to Alp Mugg. On the last ascent, we once again enjoy the magnificent view of the St.Gallen Rhine Valley before reaching the wayside shrine of St. Brother Klaus. After a few minutes we reach the ford, the end point of the hike.
- Same way back
- Combinations with the summit quartet or the 5-lake hike
