Tschlin is remote, idyllic, intact and highly vital. Characterized by agriculture, the village presents a coexistence of people, animals and landscape more clearly than any other place. The village belongs to the municipality of Valsot and there are around 850 inhabitants living on an area of 15,800 km².
Beschreibung
In 2013, the villages of Tschlin and Ramosch merged to form a new entity. Once upon a time, the border between them crossed the majestic slopes of Piz Lad and the valleys that stretched all the way to Ramosch. Tschlin was characterized by six charming hamlets – Chaflur, Chasura, Strada, Martina, Sclamishot, San Niclà. The hamlet of Tschlin was the capital.
However, change brought changes, and the municipality of Valsot emerged from Tschlin and Ramosch. With around 850 inhabitants, Valsot covers an impressive 15,800 km² of land. The backdrop of the border triangle is majestic on the plateau behind which the peaks of Piz Lad, Piz Nair and Piz Ajüz rise. These mountains are not only part of the landscape, but also living history.
In the Lower Engadine, where 17 municipalities once dominated the valley, only five remain – Val Müstair, Zernez, Scuol, Valsot and Samnaun. In the past 10-15 years, mergers have significantly reshaped the appearance of the region. The canton of Graubünden supported the development of the merger and the Lower Engadine and Val Müstair led the way as pioneers.
The merger of Tschlin and Ramosch was not without challenges and triggered many discussions. The Tschlin faction in particular was very critical of a merger. In the end, however, the merger succeeded and today they are happy about the unity of Valsot.
