Beschreibung

Along the Alpine Flower Trail from Segnesboden to Alp Nagens, you’ll discover a rich variety of alpine flora. From late June to the end of August, signs along the trail provide names, ecological facts and fascinating stories about the plants – placed right next to where they grow. Take your time and enjoy a closer look at these mountain beauties.

In the mountains, the type of rock has a direct impact on the thin soils and thus on the rooting space of plants. Silicate rocks like Verrucano produce acidic soils. Flysch, with its clay shales, forms soils rich in minerals and with good water retention. Limestone creates neutral to basic soils, which offer fewer nutrients – but chemical and physical processes on limestone and dolomite create countless ecological niches. That’s why such areas often host remarkable biodiversity.

Just behind Segneshütte lies the UNESCO World Heritage Site Tektonikarena Sardona. Nowhere else can you observe mountain-building processes so clearly. Along the striking line known as the Glarus Thrust – or the "magic line" – rocks that are 250 to 300 million years old were pushed over much younger layers, some only 35 to 50 million years old. This happened 10 to 20 million years ago, far below what was then the Earth’s surface!

Geheimtipp

Start the hike from Flims with the FlemXpress.

Circumnavigate the lower Segensboden in an anticlockwise direction. Via Grauberg you reach Alp Nagens

Sicherheitshinweis

In case of thunderstorms seek shelter in one of the huts

Wegbeschreibung

From the Segneshütte, you traverse gently downhill along the panoramic trail via Platt Alva to Alp Nagens. On the way, you pass the reservoir lake and the TCS glamping site.
