Beschreibung

On the mountain flower trail from Segnesboden to Alp Nagens, you will encounter a diverse flora along the hiking trail. From late June to late August, about 40 panels inform you about the names, ecology, and stories of the plants. The information boards are located close to the plants. Take your time and leisure to look more closely at one or another plant.

In the mountains, the rocks directly determine the properties of the shallow ("thick") soils and thus the root space of the plants. Acid soils develop in the Verrucano, as on other siliceous rocks. In the flysch, there are soils on clay schists with particularly good mineral content and a good water balance. On limestone, neutral to basic soils develop with less favorable mineral supply. However, chemical and physical processes on limestone or dolomite create many ecologically different niches. Therefore, such areas have particularly high biodiversity.

Just behind the Segnes hut lies the UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. The Tektonikarena Sardona provides unique insights into the formation history of the Alpine mountains and valleys. Along the widely visible line, the Glarus thrust fault, also called the "magic line," 250-300 million-year-old rocks were pushed over much younger rocks, some only 35-50 million years old. This occurred 10-20 million years ago far below the then Earth's surface!
