The first stage of the Avers mule track leads from Thusis through the legendary Viamala Gorge to Zillis and on to Andeer. In Zillis, the world-famous painted church ceiling from the 12th century delights guests from near and far. In Andeer, the water in the mineral bath offers rest and relaxation.

Beschreibung

The path leads us either via the Traversinersteg (mountain hiking trail) or through the Verlorenes Loch (longer section of the path on an asphalt road) to the famous Viamala Gorge. The hike continues via Reischen to Zillis. The church of St. Martin from the 12th century with the world-famous church ceiling is worth a visit. On 153 excellently preserved panels, the life of Christ and an entire medieval world view are depicted. Once you have booked a room in Andeer, the hike continues through the dreamy villages of Donat and Clugin to the well-known seaside resort of Andeer.

Wegbeschreibung

Since the summer of 2005, two Viamala routes have been available for the first stage. One leads through the "Lost Hole", it is varied and has no particular difficulties. However, it is important to mention that it runs on the Alte Commercialstrasse and the path is paved. The main route, the so-called "Veia Traversina", leads from Sils i.D. via High Raetia and the new Traversinersteg (suspension bridge) into the Viamala Gorge. It is of great historical interest, but much more challenging compared to the "Lost Hole" variant. At the Viamala Visitor Centre, the path runs 250 m up the Rhine along the road, then it turns left and you reach the Hinterrhein via stone steps. After the Punt da Suransuns passage, the route continues on the right bank of the Rhine to the Val da Bargias stream. To the left, the path then leads to Reischen. At the end of the road, take the forest path to the Cultira Dafora hill. Later, you can cross the old wooden bridge to Reischen and Zillis. The hike continues from here via Donat and Clugin to Andeer.
