With snowshoes packed we hike to the year-round inhabited village of Cavorgia, the actual starting point of the tour. From here we continue on snowshoes along a snow-covered forest road, steadily uphill to the ridge Stagias. If no one has made a trail before, it can be quite strenuous. But now we are rewarded with a view into the Val Medel and an outlook on the Piz Muraun. Fantastic! Slightly to the left of the route is the Academia Vivian. The modern multipurpose building was built after Storm Vivian and can be rented for training or various other events. We settle down on the steps and have a picnic.
Then we continue our hike downhill and occasionally leave the given route to make fresh tracks in the pristine snow. In Mutschnengia we take off the snowshoes and make a detour to the panoramic restaurant of the Hotel Cuntera. On the almost traffic-free road we walk to Curaglia, from where the postbus takes us to Disentis and the train back to Sedrun.
Geheimtipp
Option 1: Hike from Stagias to Mumpé Medel and on to Disentis. (additional walking time approx. 30 min.)
Option 2: From Mutschnengia take the route over the old mule track to Mumpé Medel and Disentis (additional walking time approx. 1 hr.)
The route can also be done in reverse starting from Curaglia/Fadretsch.
Sicherheitshinweis
The trail starts in Cavorgia and is marked, but those unfamiliar with the area are advised to print out and carry the topographic map.
After heavy snowfall the route can be strenuous. The Uaul Cavorgia lies in shadow in the depth of winter.
