Our tips for the Senda Segantini route:

  • Sala Segantini in Savognin: The Sala Segantini has become a meeting place for artists and art lovers thanks to its diverse exhibitions of paintings and sculptures.

  • Giovanni Segantini memorial stone: Take a break at the memorial stone and see the landscape and light that inspired Segantini so much.

  • Segantini studio in Maloja: The studio is located in Maloja, where the painter lived with his family from 1894 until his death.

  • Segantini Museum: The most comprehensive exhibition of Giovanni Segantini’s work shows paintings from all creative periods.

  • Segantini hut: The artist unexpectedly passed away here on September 28, 1899. Today, the Segantini hut with its fabulous view is a popular excursion destination.

Each stage of this route from Savognin to Upper Engadin passes places connected to the artist. From original views that inspired the painter, through the Segantini Museum, to his deathbed. Those traveling this route experience the natural beauty of the region twice: through their own eyes and also from Segantini’s perspective.

Giovanni Segantini was fascinated by the Surses and Engadin landscapes and the prevailing light there. Thus, the Senda Segantini still lives today from the picturesque natural scenery. With Alp Flix, one of Europe’s most important high moors, the Engadin lake landscape, or the Schafberg at the foot of Piz Muragl, scenic highlights line the way.

The Septimer and Maloja passes were important trade routes even in Roman times and therefore also have much historical significance. Equally important is the Lunghin triple watershed, from which water flows into three European seas: the Black Sea, the North Sea, and finally the Mediterranean Sea.
