Beschreibung

The Pizol area is known for its breathtaking panoramic views over the Graubünden and Glarus mountain ranges and the St. Gallen Rhine valley to Lake Constance. Nowhere else can the view be enjoyed so undisturbed as on the highest summits of the ski and hiking area. During the summit quartet, we climb Garmil, Gamidauerspitz, Hochwart, and Pizol. As the highest summit at 2,844 m above sea level and the namesake for the area, the Pizol summit is the highlight of the route. Along the way, crystal-clear mountain lakes, otherworldly-looking scree landscapes, romantic alpine pastures, and, with some luck, even chamois, ibex, or eagles will enchant you.

The route can be undertaken in one piece, each stage individually, or combined as desired.

Geheimtipp

The Berghotel Furt is the ideal accommodation and starting point for this route, also in other combination variants.

Sicherheitshinweis

The route to the Pizol summit is an alpine route and marked blue-white. Surefootedness and a head for heights are required.

The route should definitely be started with the first cable car of the morning.

Ausrüstung

Day hiking backpack (approx. 20 liters) with rain cover, sturdy and comfortable footwear, weather-appropriate and durable clothing in multiple layers, possibly telescopic poles, sun and rain protection, provisions and drinking water, first aid kit, pocket knife, mobile phone, map material

Wegbeschreibung

We start the route at the Pizol hut. From the station, we ascend uphill to the right onto the hiking trail towards Wildseeluggen. After a relatively flat start, passing the Twärchamm climbing garden, we soon reach the zigzag ascent. Upon reaching Wildseeluggen, a breathtaking view opens up of the Wildsee and our first two stage goals - the Pizol summit behind the remains of the glacier of the same name and the Hochwart to its right. Here we branch off onto the less frequented trail to the left along the Wildsee. We continue over the moraines of the former glacier towards the Pizolsattel. The ascent to this was relocated from the Pizol Glacier to the rocks for safety reasons. In exposed places, steel cables are installed as handrails. Upon reaching the saddle, we continue right over the ridge until we reach the Pizol summit from behind. The first goal is reached.

To reach the Hochwart, we retrace the same path almost back to the Wildsee. Shortly before the lake, a path branches off left towards Weisstannen, which we follow and soon arrive at the Lavtinasattel after a short and stony ascent. Now we follow the last vertical meters along the path on the right side until, after about 10-15 minutes, we reach the Hochwart.

Next, on the third stage, we head towards Gamidauerspitz, the next partial goal of the route. We go back the same way via Lavtinasattel and past Wildsee to Wildseeluggen. Here we turn left and circle the Wildsee on the other side. We are now on the path of the famous 5-lakes hike. We follow this down to Schottensee, over the next longer ascent, past Schwarzsee and to the small high plateau with the stone cairns. On the descent after the stone cairns, we reach a signpost at Baseggla. The 5-lakes hike turns off here to the right towards Baschalvasee. However, we take the path straight towards Gamidauerspitz, which we can already see ahead.

From Gamidauerspitz, we continue hiking towards the valley. After a descent, we walk via Bastanggla to the last summit, Garmil. At the Basürla signpost, we follow the path towards "Fürggli via Garmil." Upon reaching Garmil, we do not continue towards Fürggli but take the same way back to the Basürla junction. From there, we follow the signpost towards Gaffia Station, which we reach after just under an hour.
